Market Need and Opportunity

In today’s dynamic "always-on" economy even a few hours of downtime can have a serious negative impact on a business, including threatening its financial viability. An enterprise’s systems for critical business functions, 24x7 service delivery and e-business initiatives are all vulnerable to a myriad of disruptions. Consequently, businesses have migrated many of their mission critical applications to new support models that allow companies to Selectively Outsource functions that enable predictable operational costs, eliminate capital expenditures for expensive management software and mitigate risks associated with complex integration efforts, while meeting the demanding needs of the business in terms of performance, availability and regulatory compliance.

September 11, 2001, the blackout of August 2003, and on-going threats of major disruption to business operations due to fragile infrastructures or national security concerns all represent very real examples of the risks which must be managed in today’s business environment.  Regulatory compliance regarding business continuity has been mandated by oversight organizations like the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Reserve Board and NASD.  This recently implemented legislation forces financial services firms to develop detailed recovery plans and provision alternative communications in the event of a disaster.  Compliance and risk management associated with the regulations has forced financial services firms to invest heavily in business continuity projects, spending an estimated $16 billion annually.

Gartner Dataquest predicts the Selective Outsourcing market will grow from $1.1b to $3.5b in 2008, a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 33%, making this segment of IT Services the fastest growing.
