The Next Big Target
Cisco routers are everywhere. That makes them your next security concern.
Which operating system, embedded in more than 80% of enterprise IT environments, represents one of the fastest-growing hacker targets and potentially the most-devastating information-security vulnerability? Hint: It ain't Windows.

CSI/FBI Computer Crime and Security Survey (412
kb) - The Computer Crime and Security Survey is
conducted by the Computer Security Institute (CSI)
with the participation of the San Francisco Federal
Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Computer
Intrusion Squad. The survey is now in its 10th
year and is, we believe, the longest-running continuous
survey in the information security field. This
year’s survey results are based on the responses
of 700 computer security practitioners in U.S.
corporations, government agencies, financial institutions,
medical institutions and universities.

E-CrimeWatch SurveyTM,
Summary of Findings (276 kb) - The
2004 E-Crime Watch survey conducted among security
and law enforcement executives by CSO magazine
in cooperation with the United States Secret Service
and the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering
Institute’s CERT® Coordination Center,
shows a significant number of organizations reporting
an increase in electronic crimes (e-crimes) and
network, system or data intrusions. Forty-three
percent (43%) of respondents report an increase
in e-crimes and intrusions versus the previous
year and 70% report at least one e-crime or intrusion
was committed against their organization. Respondents
say that e-crime cost their organizations approximately
$666 million in 2003. However, 30% of respondents
report their organization experienced no e-crime
or intrusions in the same period.

Value of Selective Outsourcing (159
kb) - Businesses are increasingly relying on networks,
systems, applications and databases to stay competitive
and
enable rapid innovation. Pressure to control costs
and improve performance continues while pressing strategic
initiatives are competing for a company's limited IT
resources.
Maximizing
Results from your Investments (260 kb) - According to the Gartner Group seventy percent
of all enterprise
network, applications and systems
management
(NASM) framework investments fail. The key reason
why NASM investments do not deliver value is that enterprises
cannot continue to invest effectively in the systems
they’ve launched. The tools of technology
management are as complex as the systems they manage.
HIPAA
Security Requirements (132 kb)
- Each time a patient sees a doctor, is admitted to
a hospital,
goes to a pharmacist or sends
a claim to a health plan, a record is made of their
confidential health information. In the past, family
doctors and other health care providers protected the
confidentiality of those records by sealing them away
in file cabinets and refusing to reveal them to anyone
else.
